Vacationing in Italy just got more affordable. From Mon November 14-Sat November 26, 2016, thousands of bed and breakfasts across Italy will be participating in the annual Barter Week, La Settimana del Baratto, which offers visitors free stays in exchange for products or services.

The process is simple, and can be fun—barters don’t have to involve washing the dishes. B&B owners are looking for lessons in belly dancing, professional pictures of their property, or even great local produce like homemade jams or handmade Christmas decorations. Some just want another great stay in exchange!

Travellers can visit the Barter Week website to find the best fit. Browse by your interests or skills you can offer (categories include “Cars and Motorcycles”, “Computers & Accessories”, and “Music, Film, Video”), and then post a proposal for a B&B anywhere in Italy to connect with you. Or, search by region for the B&B of your choice, and see what you can offer from their wishlist. Travellers can also contact the owner directly with a proposed swap to negotiate the terms of the stay. That’s it!

For those who can’t make it to Italy during Barter Week, worry not. Around 800 Italian B&Bs are open to barters all through the year. More here.
